Im Folgenden finden Sie einen kurzen \u00dcberblick \u00fcber die Rolle Chalkidikis in der griechischen Geschichte.<\/p>\n

Mythologie:<\/strong> Der griechischen Mythologie zufolge war Chalkidiki in der Antike als \u201ePhlegra\u201c (Ort des Feuers) bekannt. Hier k\u00e4mpften die olympischen G\u00f6tter unter der F\u00fchrung von Zeus eine gewaltige Schlacht gegen die Kinder von Gaia (Mutter Erde) und Uranos. Dieser Kampf ist als Gigantomachie (Schlacht der Giganten) bekannt.<\/p>\n

Der erste \u201eFinger\u201c Chalkidikis, Kassandra, erhielt seinen Namen von Kassandros, dem K\u00f6nig von Makedonien. Die Halbinsel Sithonia wurde nach Sithon benannt, dem Sohn von Poseidon, dem griechischen Gott des Meeres. Athos, die dritte Halbinsel, verdankt ihren Namen dem Giganten Athos, der im Kampf einen Berg nach Zeus schleuderte. Dieser verfehlte Zeus und st\u00fcrzte ins Meer.<\/p>\n

Vorgeschichte:<\/strong> Arch\u00e4ologische Ausgrabungen in der Petralona-H\u00f6hle (ca. 40 km vom Istion Club & Spa entfernt) belegen, dass Chalkidiki bereits vor etwa 700.000 Jahren vom pr\u00e4historischen Menschen \u201eArchanthropos\u201c (Archanthropus europaeus petraloniensis) besiedelt war. Ein in der H\u00f6hle von Petralona gefundener Sch\u00e4del wurde auf ein Alter von etwa 200.000 Jahren datiert.<\/p>\n

Die ersten Siedle r:<\/strong> In der fr\u00fchen vorchristlichen Geschichte lebten die ersten bekannten Gemeinschaften Chalkidikis um etwa 4000 v. Chr. in der Region. Zu ihnen geh\u00f6rten die Pelasger und die Thraker.<\/p>\n

Die Pelineer aus der Peloponnes landeten nach dem Ende des Trojanischen Krieges in Skioni auf Kassandra, um ihre Vorr\u00e4te aufzuf\u00fcllen. Die gefangenen trojanischen Frauen, die sie begleiteten, setzten jedoch ihre gesamte Flotte in Brand und zwangen die Pelineer, in Skioni zu bleiben.<\/p>\n

Im 8. Jahrhundert v. Chr. nahm die Bev\u00f6lkerung Chalkidikis erheblich zu, als zahlreiche Siedler aus Chalkis eintrafen. Von dieser Stadt leitet sich auch der Name Chalkidiki ab.<\/p>\n

Olynthos,<\/strong> die bedeutendste Stadt der Region im 5. Jahrhundert v. Chr., wurde von den Persern erobert, als Chalkidiki sich im Perserkrieg den Griechen anschloss. Zwischen 486 und 483 v. Chr. lie\u00df der persische K\u00f6nig Xerxes einen Kanal durch die Landenge der Halbinsel Athos graben, um seiner Invasionsflotte im Jahr 483 v. Chr. die Durchfahrt zu erm\u00f6glichen.<\/p>\n

Nach der Niederlage der Perser gegen die Griechen in der Seeschlacht von Salamis im Jahr 480 v. Chr. f\u00fchrten Olynthos und Potidea die Bev\u00f6lkerung Chalkidikis zu einem Aufstand und vertrieben die Perser aus der Region.<\/p>\n

Aristoteles und Alexander der Gro\u00dfe:<\/strong> Aristoteles wurde 384 v. Chr. in Stageira geboren, einem Ort an der Ostk\u00fcste Chalkidikis. Er war Sch\u00fcler des ber\u00fchmten Philosophen Platon und z\u00e4hlt zu den bekanntesten und einflussreichsten Denkern der Geschichte. Nach Platons Tod pr\u00e4gte Aristoteles zahlreiche bestehende Wissensgebiete und begr\u00fcndete mehrere neue Disziplinen. Dazu geh\u00f6rten \u00c4sthetik, Biologie, Ethik, Staatslehre, Linguistik, Logik, Metaphysik, Musik, Physik, Poetik, Politik, Rhetorik, Theaterwissenschaft und Zoologie. Viele Wissenschaftler betrachten ihn als einen der ersten echten Wissenschaftler der Geschichte.<\/p>\n

Zwischen 356 und 323 v. Chr. unterrichtete Aristoteles Alexander den Gro\u00dfen, den Sohn Philipps II., des K\u00f6nigs von Makedonien. Dank seiner umfangreichen Mittel richtete Aristoteles im Lykeion eine Bibliothek ein, die die Entstehung zahlreicher seiner Werke unterst\u00fctzte. Als Leiter der K\u00f6niglichen Akademie von Makedonien unterrichtete er au\u00dferdem zwei weitere sp\u00e4tere K\u00f6nige: Ptolemaios und Kassandros.<\/p>\n

Im Jahr 348 v. Chr. wurde Chalkidiki unter Philipp II. Teil des makedonischen K\u00f6nigreichs. Sp\u00e4ter, w\u00e4hrend der Herrschaft Alexanders des Gro\u00dfen, wurden in der Region neue St\u00e4dte gegr\u00fcndet, darunter Ouranoupolis, Kassandria und Antigonia.<\/p>\n

Niedergang und Aufl\u00f6sung:<\/strong> Im Jahr 168 v. Chr. wurde Chalkidiki Teil des R\u00f6mischen Reiches. Damit begann eine lange Phase des Niedergangs, in der die St\u00e4dte zunehmend unter die Kontrolle r\u00f6mischer H\u00e4ndler gerieten. Im Laufe der folgenden Jahrhunderte ging das R\u00f6mische Reich allm\u00e4hlich in das Byzantinische Reich \u00fcber.<\/p>\n

Im 6. Jahrhundert n. Chr. litt Chalkidiki unter Angriffen der Hunnen. In den darauffolgenden Jahrhunderten wurde die Region auch von Katalanen und Venezianern angegriffen.<\/p>\n

Der Kampf um die Freiheit:<\/strong> Im Jahr 1430 n. Chr. eroberten die Osmanen Chalkidiki und \u00fcbernahmen die Herrschaft von den Venezianern. Nur wenige Jahrzehnte sp\u00e4ter erstreckte sich das Osmanische Reich \u00fcber das gesamte griechische Gebiet. Die osmanische Besatzung Griechenlands dauerte fast 400 Jahre, bis zum Beginn des Unabh\u00e4ngigkeitskrieges im Jahr 1821, an dem auch Chalkidiki beteiligt war. Die endg\u00fcltige Befreiung und Eingliederung in den griechischen Staat erfolgte jedoch erst nach den Balkankriegen von 1912.<\/p>\n

Ein neuer Anfang:<\/strong> Mit der Ankunft Tausender Fl\u00fcchtlinge aus Kleinasien begann ein neues Kapitel in der Geschichte Chalkidikis. Etwa 30 neue D\u00f6rfer entstanden, darunter Nea Fokea, Nea Skioni, Nea Plagia und Nea Moudania.<\/p>\n

Religi\u00f6se St\u00e4tten<\/strong><\/p>\n

Die Religion hat in Chalkidiki seit jeher eine wichtige Rolle gespielt. Die Region beherbergt zahlreiche sehenswerte religi\u00f6se St\u00e4tten, darunter das Kloster Zografou in der N\u00e4he von Nea Moudania, die Kl\u00f6ster \u201eMari\u00e4 Verk\u00fcndigung\u201c und \u201eHeiliger Arsenios von Kappadokien\u201c in Ormylia, das Kloster Agios Prodromos (Johannes der T\u00e4ufer) in Metamorfosi sowie das Kloster Agia Anastasia Farmakolytria im Bergland Chalkidikis.<\/p>\n

Der Berg Athos<\/strong><\/p>\n

Die bedeutendsten religi\u00f6sen St\u00e4tten der Region sind zweifellos die monumentalen Kl\u00f6ster der M\u00f6nchsrepublik Athos auf der dritten Halbinsel Chalkidikis. Der Heilige Berg geh\u00f6rt seit 1988 zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe.<\/p>\n

Die Megisti Lavra wurde im Jahr 963 n. Chr. vom byzantinischen M\u00f6nch Athanasios dem Athoniten gegr\u00fcndet. Sie ist das erste, gr\u00f6\u00dfte und bedeutendste der heute bestehenden 20 Kl\u00f6ster. In den folgenden Jahrhunderten entstanden weitere bedeutende Kl\u00f6ster, gegr\u00fcndet von M\u00f6nchen aus Bulgarien, Georgien, Rum\u00e4nien, Russland und Serbien.<\/p>\n

Auf dem Berg Athos gibt es au\u00dferdem zahlreiche kleinere M\u00f6nchsgemeinschaften, sogenannte Skiten. Sie \u00e4hneln kleinen D\u00f6rfern mit Kalivien (H\u00fctten) und Kellien (M\u00f6nchszellen), die um ein Hauptgeb\u00e4ude angeordnet sind. Einige Einsiedlerm\u00f6nche leben abgeschieden an den Bergh\u00e4ngen in einfachen Behausungen oder H\u00f6hlen.<\/p>\n

Der Heilige Berg verf\u00fcgt \u00fcber eine reiche Tradition der Ikonenmalerei, die bis ins Mittelalter zur\u00fcckreicht. Er ist au\u00dferdem f\u00fcr seine zahlreichen Ikonenmalerwerkst\u00e4tten bekannt.<\/p>\n

Etwa 2.000 M\u00f6nche leben in der M\u00f6nchsrepublik und folgen einem strengen Tagesablauf, der sich nach dem julianischen Kalender und der byzantinischen Zeitrechnung richtet. Alle Kl\u00f6ster schlie\u00dfen bei Sonnenuntergang ihre Tore und \u00f6ffnen sie erst wieder bei Sonnenaufgang. Noch vor dem ersten Tageslicht rufen die Glocken die M\u00f6nche zum Morgengebet.<\/p>\n

Jedes Kloster feiert an einem bestimmten Tag im Jahr sein Patrozinium zu Ehren seines Schutzheiligen. Das bedeutendste Fest findet am 15. August nach dem gregorianischen Kalender statt (28. August nach dem julianischen Kalender) und ist der Jungfrau Maria gewidmet. Die besondere Verehrung der Gottesmutter hat dem Heiligen Berg auch den Beinamen \u201eGarten der Jungfrau Maria\u201c eingebracht. Frauen ist der Zutritt zum Berg Athos nicht gestattet.<\/p>\n
